5:58 pm - Best Thing Ever Right At This Moment

Are you watching? You'd better be fucking watching.

And then buy me this.

Today’s Quote: “It’s not about making money, it’s about taking money.” – Doctor Horrible, Doctor Horrible’s Singalong Blog, Act I
Random Thought for the Day: There is never a time when money is not a problem in some way.

9:31 pm - Study Break!
Due to a lack of preparation, I didn't take an exam on Thursday and set myself back a bit in that I have an exam tomorrow (Political Science: Weapons, Strategy, and War.) I could've taken it Friday afternoon, after the Roman Law exam, but I realized that it would be cataclysmicly stupid to go in as unprepared as I was at the time when the option to take it later existed. I've been studying for it since I got up *cough*1pm*cough* and I'm feeling pretty solid at this point. A few more hours and I'll feel ready for anything. And, naturally, being laden with hubris I will sink like a proverbial rock into the morass of this professor's notoriously asskicking exams. Oh, well. At least I'll feel solid for a few minutes...Also due tomorrow is my final paper for Spanish, which has been written for a while and just needs to be cleaned up and fitted with a bibliography. I'll do that tonight as well.

11:04 pm - Something Old...Something Neeeew!
Reference to Iron Maiden's "Rockin' in Rio" DVD, couldn't resist.

I think I’ve figured out what I’m going to change the name of this journal to: HugninandMunin (or some variation, if that looks too smashed.) Hugnin and Munin were the ravens that sat on Odin’s shoulders: Thought and Memory, respectively. I think it’s a nice play on the Viking thing I like to run with, plus it’s actually what goes into a journal. What do you think?

Exams started today, and I’ll be starting mine tomorrow. I’m hoping to do one Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday each, boom boom boom DONE. Then I can focus on packing, which is the real time consumer. I feel oddly detached from the exams: I’m at the point where I know I’ll pass, barring acts of total memory loss, so I’m not as afraid as I should be, perhaps. Not good, obviously, but it seems to be almost universal here.

Here’s a bunch of old stuff, written on days closer to the events, but that I never posted. ^__^ Enjoy.

Hoop Day! Written April 30 )

Fiddleheads’ Final Bow: Also April 30 )

You Gotta Be Fucking Kidding: Written May 2 )

Whew! Please leave your comment about the new name; I’d like to know what you think before I pay to have it changed. ^__~

10:38 pm - Over and Out
I had my last day of undergraduate classes today. Now all the stands between me and my status as a college graduate are the three exams, one paper, and various bills.

I've had a lot of people ask me how it feels. It feels good. Of course, that could be the few drinks I've had tonight; went to the pub and threw darts with a friend for about an hour. Still. Feels good.

And Now for Something Completely Different )

More next time; there's a hugeass entry I just haven't finished about old stuff. ♥

Today’s Quote: "They say the best weapon is one you never have to fire. I prefer the weapon you only need to fire once. That's how dad did it, that's how America does it, and it's worked out pretty well so far." - Tony Stark, "Iron Man"

Random Thought for the Day: Strongbow Cider versus Mike's Hard Lime. Strongbow wins!

11:30 am - Don't be a BETCH
One week, and already I’m off schedule for updates. I’m still going to try to keep this going; it’s an exercise for me as much as it’s a way to keep friends informed of what’s going on in my life, perhaps more.

I have a lot to talk about from this weekend, but I’ll save it for posting material later this week; today’s topic is weighing on me pretty heavily right now.

And in the face of the Future... )

Tune in next time for something more positive. As an apology, I have included this picture of an adorable puppy. Look ye on it and be appeased.

1:25 am - Whee!
Finished the paper early this morning, grabbed a couple of hours of sleep, and then whipped up the second one that I had to do for today. Email to myself, print, and done. Everything got turned in on time, nice and neat. Whew.

Had lunch with my girlfriends, which involved the usual amount of cracking up, then excused myself around the time everyone was leaving anyway. Took a nice nap in the sun, then moved to my room to keep from getting burnt. And slept through just about everything as a result of feeling overpoweringly nauseated when I tried to get up.

Went over to the residence hall for a movie party; tomorrow is the day of Wellesley's Hoop Rolling Race, a traditional event for seniors, so the party was basically to decorate our hoops (and each others'.)

The only journal name that's been thought up so far was "Squishykittenbelly." While I think I'm going to keep looking, I can't deny it's got a certain appeal.

Tired now, gonna pass out.

Today’s Quote: “I hate that song.” - The Joker, after shooting the heads off singing automatons, thus causing them to explode.

Random Thought for Today: Sleep. It is good.

9:39 pm - Blather, Post, Repeat
I need a new name for this journal!

I'm more than open to suggestions. (Translation: Help help help!)

The weather's been amazing; I wish I could keep my window open, but there's a big hole in the screen and I don't want my room infested with buzzing winged things.
Today Was a Day )

I don't know how many of you are familiar with the current YouTube fad of "kinetic typography." Basically, people have been recreating scenes from movies using only text and the motion of the words. I'm enjoying this immensely, being a word girl by nature. One of my favorites:

"V for Vendetta"

I'm a little annoyed that trying to embed more than one video on this entry makes all the videos the same. Too tired to figure it out. Go watch the one from Full Metal Jacket, Marv's Monologue from Sin City, and the soap scene from Fight Club.

11:36 pm - Mixed Media, Methodicalness, and the Marathon
For those of you who read my DA journal, you may want to skip the first few cuts; they're the same thing as I posted there, with few changes.

Mixed Media! )

Methodicalness )

...and the Marathon )

As to the prospies, only one showed. Sweet girl, very sheltered and polite. She seemed a little intimidated by, well, everything, which I felt was explained by her being a boarding-school girl. I don't know if Wellesley would be a good fit for her, but as she was choosing between here and Barnard...Well, we're better. ^__~

Tired. Sleep now. This still counts as a Monday update!

1:47 am - Spring Open Campus
It's one of those days that makes people feel like getting through the New England winter was worth it: the sun is shining, it's warm with a cool breeze, and there are more birds and flowers than show up on most greeting cards. It's an absolutely perfect day for Spring Open Campus.

Past, Present, and Prospies )

I should go cut some daffodils for my room. They're growing absolutely everywhere, and it makes me really happy to see all the flashes of yellow and white and green in places that for months have been a wash of brown and grey. This would mean getting my vase back from the girl who's got it now. It should be an interesting exchange, considering that her friends borrowed it from me and she and I have never actually spoken except in passing. "Hey, so. You know that clear glass vase your friends gave you flowers in? Yeah, that's mine. And I need it back." Good luck me. In all likelihood, she'll be a sweetie about it.

10:08 pm - Real Quick Like
Found what looks to be the lyrics from the Call in PotC:3. (Officially called "Hoist the Colours.") Here you goes, any and all of you who've had it in your head. If you want the music too, and don't have the soundtrack yet like two of you I know will, I found the boy's part here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cQ7AsVxpNQ&mode=related&search=

Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the Colors high.
Heave ho,
thieves and beggars,
never shall we die.

The king and his men
stole the queen from her bed
and bound her in her Bones.
The seas be ours
and by the powers
where we will well roam.

Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the Colors high.
Heave ho, thieves and beggars,
never say we die.

Some men have died
and some are alive
and others sail on the sea
– with the keys to the cage...
and the Devil to pay
we lay to Fiddler's Green!

The bell has been raised
from it's watery grave...
Do you hear it's sepulchral tone?
We are a call to all,
pay head the squall
and turn your sail toward home!

Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the Colors high...
Heave ho, thieves and beggars,
never say we die.

6:54 pm - Quizzes! And Stuff!
So I'm mostly settled in here; got some clothes organizing to do so I'm not rooting in my suitcase when I want something, but that's not too high a priority. Yesterday I walked down to the Whole Foods and went grocery shopping, so now I have tasty healthy food to munch upon. Yum. I've been spending some time sunning each day, and I've been switching back and forth between reading my shiny new hardcover copy of The Children of Hurin and my old well-loved paperback of The Silmarillion. I'm enjoying this break immensely.

Absolutely NOBODY Will Be Surprised By This )

Today’s Quote: ”And get a little Baby Jesus for a centerpiece...Jayne! Try not to steal too much of their shit!"- Nathan Fillion during a blooper reel of the filming of "Serenity" in the scene where they're salvaging materials from the tragically obliterated Shepherd village.

Random Thought for Today: I hate spoilers. And yet I manage to spoil almost every film I see for myself. O_o I suspect that if I had a therapist they would say this was a deeply-rooted psychological issue. Add it to the list!

I'm in D.C., holed up in the basement of wonderful family friends. Really. Tired. And my tummy is fully of really good pizza. And TIRED. But here is the the entry I wrote on the train from Boston to Union Station, in excruciating detail.

What Would YOU Do for Seven Hours? )

Epilogue: A nice Indian gentleman who'd been talking most of his trip about cell phone services and computers helped me drag my rolling suitcase almost all the way to the door, then pointed me in the direction of the place where taxis are. I rolled my way over, called Ellen, waited for Ellen, loaded crap in Ellen's car, and then we dropped my stuff off and walked down the block for very good pizza and red wine. Now I pass out.

1:03 am - Grrr, Arrrgh!
Blizzard, the software developer behind the worse-than-crack MMORPG World of Warcraft (I've been clean for over a week, don't look at me like that) has recently earned my wrath. My wrathful, wrathy wrath! How so, you may well ask?

They said I couldn't do something.

Namely, they rejected a cartoon I submitted to the WoW comic contest. I had high hopes for it: it's gotten very positive reactions from two out of two of the WoW players I showed it to, I'm pleased with the art, and I've been keeping tabs on the competition. But, since it features a character from a film that evidently now has its own game, I don't get to play. Which is a damn shame, since the prize for winning for the month is a cool $100 and it's a year-long contest with a grand prize of an iPod mini. Which I would totally have sold to pay off college expenses, despite Hac's recent (read: as of last night) half-plea that I buy him a 360.

And then they disqualified what I consider to be the funniest of the video entries for their YouTube contest. Apparently, since I stopped giving them my money, there is no love for me in Azeroth.

Speaking of Money and Hac )

Looks like I get to play World of Darkness tonight after all! Yay! Hot DAMN the guy storytelling is good. I heard he was good, but he's really. Really. Good.

12:45 am - Amantes Sunt Amentes
People in love are CRAZY. Love makes you stupid. Hang it up, love's got a hold on you. Phrase it however you want, I don't think anyone is going to fight me on this. But there are certain times that it's really brought home: people taking up new and dangerous behaviors to impress that special someone, standing under windows to sing poetry, getting into fistfights to defend a perceived interloper on their romantic turf. Not to mention the entire jewelry industry.

Or a phone call with the Boy. Fantastic and addictive, yet naturally head-on-desk arrghy.

Today was the kind of beautiful that makes people sign up for environmentalist newsletters. The sun was bright, the air was cool, and the breeze was like a warm caress that slides gently across any exposed skin. The sky was the sort of happy blue that makes little children reach for the sparkly crayons, and crocuses are starting to bloom near the sidewalks. There was icecream, and successful uploadings of artwork to the DeviantArt page. I felt good, with the exception of a weird headache that's still pressing at the walls of my skull.

Right now I'm watching as a friend of mine turns himself into a World of Darkness character. I just took care of mine, and I'm very pleased: the Storyteller, a friend of mine through [info]asmallbluedot and [info]blazer1000, was very kind to me. I'm excited to play; I've wanted to get into a World of Darkness game (specifically, Vamp) for years.

Today’s Quote: "Tu voz es un murmullo verde de oasis/yo he tenido tanta sed, tanto tiempo." Translation:"Your voice is the lush murmur of an oasis/I've been so thirsty, so long." -- Francisco Alarcón, De Amor Oscuro

Random Thought for Today: I have always liked secret passageways and hidden rooms, even though I was always terrified that someone or something was hiding in them. Counterintuitive?
